Postpartum Depression

Novo is over and it’s back to the regular routine. I think PPD hasn’t hit me yet, and I hope it never does. The baby analogy I gave on Twitter about Novo being like giving birth, painful but rewarding in the end. That’s how I feel now.

COLLEGE STUDENTS MODEL SOCIAL JUSTICE AT NOVO

WALNUT, Calif – Several college students and friends of the Los Angeles community are hosting an event called the Novo Fashion Show in order to connect the community to a cause through clothing. The event is on Saturday, April 25, located at Vineyard of Harvest Church, 21167 Commerce Pointe Dr., Walnut.

The fashion show Novo serves as a means of gathering individuals of the community to donate their clothes, and to find opportunities to take part in helping those in need. Before and after the show, attendees will be able to visit informational booths that other organizations have set up around the facility. These booths will allow opportunities for the community to get involved with different social justice opportunities such as feeding the homeless, or contribute to organizations dedicated to free human trafficking around the world.

Non-alcoholic drinks and appetizers will be provided along with entertainment including a Hip-Hop dance performance, eight runway designer clothing lines and a homelessness awareness speech given by the organization Invisible People. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. in the main sanctuary. Children 11 years or younger will be escorted to a separate program in the chapel.

The fashion show’s planning team consists of five college students and several friends whom all share the same vision of demonstrating love and compassion through practicality. “Fashion is something I am passionate about, and if I can combine that with doing something positive and meaningful, then it’s even better,” said Wendy Chou, fashion merchandising major at California State University, Long Beach. Chou and several others have dedicated the past five months to plan Novo. All clothing donations from the show will be going to two non-profit organizations: Working Wardrobes and Caring Hearts Ministry Inc.

Clothing donations are being accepted and stored at Vineyard of Harvest Church, Walnut until the day of the show. Clothes can be dropped off at VOH Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit www.novofashionshow.tumbrl.com or email novofashion@gmail.com for more information.
